Franco-Benoni combines ideas from the French and Benoni defenses. e.g.: in the move sequence 1.e4 e6 2.d4 c5. Grandmasters Gideon Barcza and Bent Larsen in particular have achieved great success with this. Black's defensive idea is to move White into variations that are not so familiar to him by rearranging moves. The flexible structure can be used equally against the opening moves 1.e4, 1.d4 or 1.c4
