Purdy began writing and analyzing in the 40's long before Pachman, ECO, and today's standards. Yet, no one could touch Purdy for clarity and genius. An inveterate solver of difficult chess problems, Purdy (from Australia) became the firts world correspondence chess champion (1953)
He continued publishing his Chess World into 1967.
In 1973 he published the instant sellout How Fischer Won. Howerever,his popular Guide to Good Chess went into 23 printings!
