The evans gambit is one of the most attractive chess opeings. A tense struggle in the early moves leads to exciting middle-game positions that are often decided by brilliant sacrificial attacks- the Evergreen game being only one of many examples in this book.

A favourite of the romantic Masters like Anderseen and Chigorin, the Evans was played more than any other opening in the 19th century.
